What to do Until that Second Stimulus Check Arrives

You could make the argument that some sort of financial assistance has never been more important than it is now since the COVID-19 pandemic reached American shores. Cases are surging throughout the country, states are reimposing restrictions on certain businesses and activities to help curb the spread, and as a result, unemployment claims are almost sure to go up again in the near-term. And despite positive vaccine developments and things likely normalizing by spring 2021, Americans can’t wait until the recovery is in full swing. Many of them need help right now.

Unfortunately, passing another stimulus bill right now doesn’t seem to be a high priority for Congress, as the two parties have been deadlocked for months now. Democrats want a far-reaching, multi-trillion-dollar bill similar to the HEROES Act the House of Representatives passed last spring. Republicans want more of a skinny bill that would be more limited in how assistance is provided. Regardless, it’s looking less and less likely that one will be passed and signed into law until after the next president is inaugurated.

So assuming another stimulus check is arriving early next year, you might be wondering what you should be doing now with many weeks to go until it arrives in your bank account. Here’s a closer look:

Plan Like You Won’t Get One

While a stimulus check appears likely sooner or later, we strongly encourage that you don’t bank on receiving one – no pun intended. In other words, plan like you won’t be receiving one and work to get your finances in order until the expected economic recovery begins to take form. We’ve reported extensively on how to cut costs, reassess your finances and take stock of your expected monthly income to make better money decisions in many previous posts.

Become Determined to Get By

Getting by in these times largely consists of ensuring that you have enough money to make ends meet. If you’re employed, consider yourself fortunate. But if you’re not, and unemployment isn’t paying all the bills, then it could be time to get creative over these next few months. Consider things like trying to find a part-time job to bring in extra cash. Contact creditors and see if you can put any bills on temporary hold. Tap into savings or rainy days accounts that you might have for situations like this. Simply put, make sure that you do what you have to do to get by.

Stay Positive

It can be easy to feel down during these times, but the end truly is in sight – and it’s only a few more months away. By spring, there’s expected to be a combination of enough people infected and recovered, and those who have received the vaccine that the pandemic is likely to come to an end and the recovery is likely to begin. So stay positive. We’ve come this far, we’ve just got a little bit further to go.

  1. I’m not too confident that there will be a another check with these democrats trying to spend it on stupid things like free stuff for immigrants while Americans starve. we need to send the squad back to where there traitor asses came from, can’t believe we have people dumb enough to vote them into office

  2. This is for all the newly elected democrats with their free list costing millions, You need to take a survey of all the people living off pay , to paycheck each month, The people who make our laws live in a different world! you say give SS and Medicare to all when seniors are living on poverty levels and can’t afford to buy medicine, or pay their mtg. or replace a worn out car! Before you open America,s doors to immigrants, you need to see the poverty of working Americans first! I am a retired teacher I was hit by Gov off set and Wep. my SS went from 1600 to 225. a month, I am not alone so many gov. workers in poverty because of this unfair law!

  3. THE DO NOTHING CONGRESS UNDER NANCY PELOSI ARE NOT INTERESTED IN THE AMERICAN PEOPLE ….NANCY LOVES HER ICE CREAM WHILE OTHER SUFFER.

    1.
